Tips For Purchasing The Best Air Filtration System
Dust and other indoor pollutants are a leading cause of many asthmatic and bronchial diseases, since the air indoors may also carry bacteria. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the indoor air is two to five times more polluted than the outdoor air.
While choosing an Air Filtration System, one must consider factors like the space where the system is to be installed. For instance, if the building is centrally air conditioned, a whole house wide filtration system can be used. Else, separate individual units can be installed in different rooms.
What to look for in an Air Filtration System
A good quality air filter will absorb the most miniscule pollutants, which include bacteria, dust and smoke particles. Here are some points to consider when looking for an air filtration system.
1. The square foot area covered by the system should be more than the volume of the space where it is to be used.
2. To filter air in a space of 250 square feet, about 100 CFM (Cubic Feet/Minute) of air should move through the system.
3. They usually use strong fans to filter the air; this, however, produces noise. So, choosing systems with sound dampers is a better option.
4. We must choose a system with intake and output at the opposite ends. This provides for high efficiency.
5. Also consider the life expectancy, availability, and price of replacement filters before purchasing.
High Efficiency Particulate Air Filtration System (HEPA)
HEPA filters are the most efficient filtration systems and are comparatively inexpensive. Manufacturers have to follow strict standards to qualify as a HEPA unit manufacturer. HEPA was originally developed to absorb and remove radioactive particulate matter from the air in nuclear facilities. For a filter to qualify as a HEPA filtering system, it must absorb at least 99.7% of 0.3 micrometer airborne particle pollutants.
